At the start of every year, we come face to face with a  plethora of interior design trends that may or may not take the world by storm. This year is no different, with countless trends pertaining to walls, floors, cupboards, cabinets, beds and baths already competing with one another. Although there are a number of new trends that are being embraced, there are also those design styles that never quite get old. A good example of this is wood, which is once again touted to be a top choice among both designers and homeowners due to its versatility, affordability and durability. While wood can easily be incorporated into the interior design of any room in your house, there are three areas in particular, where  wood will feature extensively during 2020.
In the kitchen
The kitchen is one of the most-utilized spaces in the home, and also one where wood can be featured in a variety of ways, thanks to its versatile nature.  Roughly-carved ceiling beams will lend a nice touch of drama to an otherwise classical design, while range hoods with a wooden finish will make a comeback. As interior designers start to veer away from granite countertops, dark, natural woods like walnut and wenge will become increasingly popular alongside vintage wooden plate racks. Don’t be afraid to mix and match contemporary wood finishes with more rustic finishes. Modern oak cabinets can be given a personal touch with reclaimed walnut panels, while vintage light fixtures pair surprisingly well with avant-garde stools.
In the bedroom
Minimalistic, nature-inspired bedrooms are going to be very popular in 2020. Tiles and  laminate flooring will make way for hardwood floors that can effortlessly add warmth to a room, while wooden bed frames are set to outperform upholstered ones. One way to easily incorporate wood into your bedroom in 2020 is with a headboard. It doesn’t matter whether you opt for a rustic, reclaimed wood headboard or one with intricate details cut into it  using CNC cutting technology. Wood is fabulous in all its various forms and will contribute a lot to the ambience of a bedroom, particularly when you incorporate your own designs and details. Other ways to add wooden touches to your room is with floating shelves, mirror and photo frames, wooden sculptures, and light fittings.
In the bathroom
Bathrooms are going au naturel in 2020, with wood and greenery coming together in exquisite designs. The biophilic design trend will also see  unprocessed wood elements such as logs, tree stumps and driftwood make their way into bathrooms as both decorative and functional elements alongside floor-to-ceiling greenery. Cabinets, vanities and shelving in light and medium woods will remain popular, while large wood-framed mirrors in all shapes and sizes will adorn the walls of both large and small bathrooms. Although wood is both versatile and timeless, imitation wood tiles have fallen out of favor with many top designers. For this reason, opt for a more natural flooring type and incorporate real wood into your design elsewhere.
Wood is one of the most timeless design elements you will ever find. By adding wooden elements to your home, you not only bring a piece of nature indoors, but you also add warmth and personality to every room you incorporate it into.
