A garage makeover for many homes should be a top priority depending on their present condition. Not to mention that everyone can do with a less cluttered, more organized, clean, and hence productive garage. In this article, we’ll discuss five things you can do on your own to renovate the garage.
Tip no. 1: Removing Junk from the Garage
The first thing you should do is to get rid of everything you don’t need from the garage. Take a long and unbiased look at all the stuff. Things like broken spots equipment, unused lawn care tools, old tools, and empty boxes should all be removed. The easiest way to do it is to remove everything from the garage. Then choose what goes back in based on why it should. All other items can either be sold or donated.
Tip no. 2: Routine Maintenance which You’ve Neglected
Replace things like floor cover plates, gaining drain pipes, etc. You’ll also want to examine the garage door seals and if they are not working properly or don’t look good then replace them. Removing floor fixtures if they aren’t built into the wall or stuck to the ground should go, these include cabinets, appliances, and sinks, etc. When you replace all of these, it in itself will give your garage door a new look.
Tip no. 3: Floor Coating
Floor coating is important, and its something you can do yourself or you can hire professionals. There are of course advantages to both, which includes saving money if you take the DIY route. You can buy some DIY epoxy garage floor kits and follow the instructions on the box. Floor coating is very important, and if done right can last for several years. The only problem is that it can take some time to lay it on and things can get messy so if you’re in doubt about doing it yourself then perhaps hire an expert who shouldn’t charge you a lot for an average size garage.
Tip no. 4: Install Shelves Where Needed
Now before all that lawn equipment goes back into the garage, you might want to consider building some extra storage space. If anything, it will remove any negative feelings you have about putting everything back and the garage looking exactly the way it did. All you need for most shelves is wood, a drill, some nails, brackets, and good planning. That said planning is perhaps the most crucial part so make sure that you know what type of equipment will be stored on the shelves and then install them accordingly.
Tip no. 5: Get a New Garage Door
We know many people overlook this particular step because garage doors aren’t exactly cheap. But if your garage door looks beaten up, it ruins the entire look of your home. So, you’ll want to search for a new ideally automatic garage door which brings back the curb appeal of your home. While it is possible to install a new garage door yourself, we advise against it because its dangerous, instead you’ll want to hire a team of experts.
