There are so many reasons why you should consider a Corian or Tristone worktop, but before we highlight their differences we better start with explaining what each option is made from.

Corian is typically manufactured from 90% natural stone that is ground into a powder and then mixed with a synthetic resin. The way Corian is manufactured makes it incredibly durable and resistant to stains, scratches and heat. It is also really easy to clean and look after, making it a really hygienic option for kitchen worktops.

Tristone, despite having ‘stone’ in the name, is made up of entirely man-made materials – it does not actually contain any stone. It is an acrylic composite material that is formed into shape with heat. As with corian, these worktops are incredibly hard, non-porous and really easy to maintain.

What Do They Have In Common?

Both options are very resistant to damage and impervious to heat, liquids and stains, so if you’re looking for an easy-to-maintain kitchen worktop that doesn’t need any serious maintenance work then corian or tristone are both great options.

Corian and tristone kitchen work surfaces both offer more design flexibility than other materials like natural stone. When it comes to colour, this is because it includes added pigments, and by changing the ratio of pigmentation during manufacture, these worktops can be made to be pretty much any colour and style. Both options can also be made much thinner than natural stone, as well as materials like wood or laminate. This means it is possible to achieve a super sleek look with low profile worktops that are incredibly strong and durable too.

In terms of installation, unlike natural stone, which requires a lot of specialist stone cutting and fitting, worktops made from corian or tristone can be fitted as part of a DIY job. All you need are some basic tools and a little bit of knowledge and you are equipped to make a go of installing your kitchen worktops yourself. However we always recommend using a professional installation company to make sure you do not make any costly mistakes that could damage your worktops or void your manufacturer’s warranty.

So Which Is Better?

Given the fact that both kitchen worktop options present similar benefits then it is perhaps difficult to work out which is better? Both are relatively low maintenance and can make great worktops for kitchens and bathrooms too. However, in fairness, there is one characteristic that we have not mentioned yet, and that is the price of each type of worktop. Corian worktops are more expensive, owing to the fact they contain natural stone that needs to be mined, ground and transported. Tristone can be made of basic materials that are commonly available, and as such the price is cheaper.
