Perhaps you’re moving into a new place and you’re looking for ways to have it furnished without breaking the bank?

Furnishing a home can always be done cheaply if you know where to look for the best deals and if you’re equipped with brilliant home decorating ideas.

Let me begin by saying this:

For less than £5000, you can have your home furnished!

In this article, I’ll share with you a few ideas on how to furnish your house for that kind of budget, along with some steps that you need to take to ensure that you get what you’re trying to achieve.

How to Furnish Your Home Under £5000

Here are a few ideas that you should consider to achieve a successful home decorating project under £5000:

Plan and visualise.

No matter what the budget is, visualisation and planning are amongst the first steps that you need to take even before thinking of furnishing your home.

These include planning for the costs, furniture size, where to place it, and the overall look that you want to achieve for your new place.

You might think £5000 is a bit less but not really. You can pretty much buy all the essential furnishings for your home if you’re careful where to spend it on.

Prioritise the needs before wants.

Houzz, an online based interior design hub recommends prioritising the important big stuff over the smaller furniture.

A good way to approach this step is to create a priority list that can guide you throughout the journey of choosing right furnishing for your home.

Now that you know your priorities, you should also learn how to strategically fill your home with furniture. The kitchen and the bedroom should be your main focus because they are the most used space in the house.

Some of the essential furnishings that you need to focus on include:

  • bed
  • kitchen table
  • chairs
  • sofa or loveseat

For your own convenience, I have created this table showing how to roughly lay out your budget for the each furniture mentioned.

FURNITUREESTIMATED COST

Beds

  £100 to £700

Dining set£100 to £900
Chairs £100 to £500
Sofa £100 to £700

Again, these are estimated cost and may not be the exact price that you’ll see when you visit the shop.

I personally prefer doing a table like this as my guide to ensure that I will not go over the £5000 limit.

As you can see, even if I go for the maximum amount, I still have a few thousand pounds left which is meant for home accessories, lighting, and other extra expenses that’ll come along the way.

Plan where to shop!

Finding the right place to shop is another secret that you should know if you have a limited budget for home furnishing. There are plenty of good deals around that will suit your budget one of them is Instrument furniture which is specialising in wardrobes and bedroom sets. It is important to spend time looking and researching to ensure you get the sweetest deals and to explore your options, as well.

Don’t bite the first deal that you’ll see unless you look somewhere else first.

Shop secondhand.

Facebook, Marketplace, eBay, Craigslists, flea markets, antique shops, and consignment stores are the best places to find discounted goods.

The most enticing aspect about shopping secondhand is the cost. Some secondhand items are made of good quality and have survive the test of times.

I prefer shopping seconhand lighting and accessories because I like the good old classic look.

eBay seems to be the right place and here’s are a few preloved items that are below £300.

  • vintage style leather arm chair
  • office swivel chair
  • vintage sofa
  • Downton Abbey style lampshade
  • Classic lampshade

However, it is important to check the shipping costs as some of them could be more expensive than the item itself. Use the shipping calculator to determine the shipping costs of your items purchased.

Final Word

As I see it, £5000 is an okay budget for home furnishing. I can honestly say that you can pretty much buy most of the essential home furnishings for that kind of price.

However, it requires proper planning to get what you’re trying to achieve.

Planning, visulalising, prioritising, and learning the best ways to shops are amongst the essential steps that you need to take to achieve a beautiful home interior.

Moreover, you should also learn to choose quality over quantity despite this kind of budget. There are many places where you can buy fine quality furniture without breaking the bank.

Lastly, be sure to always check the shipping costs before deciding to purchase home furnishings online.

So, go on. Start furnishing your home!
