Whilst we’ve all got some extra time on our hands during lockdown, it’s clear the nation has taken to home improvements, DIY and garden renovations. We’ve seen some creative and effective ways to clean, improve and enjoy your home!

Cleaning Your Blinds

Wooden blinds and venetian blinds consist of horizontal slats that offer sunlight protection for your home. Wooden blinds bring the natural beauty of the outdoors into your home or office, with variations available in a range of different shades, stains and colours, from rustic, contemporary and modern. Venetian blinds are typically made of aluminium and can be the perfect choice for a variety of different rooms, no matter what style you’re trying to create.  Venetian blinds can be tilted open and shut, and the blind fully or partially opened to create different levels of light and privacy options.

It’s easy to see why these are some of the most popular blind options on the market, but how do you maintain their cleanliness? Believe it or not, our top hack for cleaning your blinds is to use a cooking utensil!

Getting the dust out from the individual slats can be time consuming, but this easy technique can be easily accomplished. Simply wrap microfibre towels, cloth or tissue around either side of a pair of tongs and secure them with rubber bands—and voilà, you’ve got your very own DIY duster. You’ll have dust-free blinds in seconds!

Separating Your Curtains

Classic, sumptuous, yet effortless, it’s obvious why curtains continue to be one of the most popular types of window furnishing. For those that want that perfect finish, letting your curtains hang with even width between the pleats can be somewhat difficult.

Our top hack uses empty pieces toilet rolls in between the pleats to make the material hang straight, achieving perfect folds. To recreate the look all you need to do is save up your empty toilet rolls, measure out an equal width and thread them between the pleats of material.

You can either take the curtains off entirely and put a tube between each eyelet, or cut down the tube length-ways and wrap it around the curtain pole.

Homemade Accessories

Once you’ve got your favourite blinds or curtains in place, the finishing touches really bring the room to life and give it that homely feeling. Windowsill accessories like oil diffusers and candles are a great way to furnish your room, you can colour coordinate and make the room smell lush!

To make your own homemade diffuser, all you need is an empty bottle, some reed sticks and a splash of your favourite smelling oi.

We’ve saved up mini spirit bottles and taken the label off, this way you can match the bottle colour to the other colours in the room. Mini Whitley Neil gin bottles are perfect and purple, or Jack Daniels are rustic and brown. Simple add a splash of your favourite oil, top with water and pop in your reed sticks. You can even add a small box, string or ribbon to finish off the look.
