What’s not to love about timber Venetian blinds? They are chic, elegant, and classy, and suit both classic and modern interiors. They offer precise light control and protection from the sun, and are a simple way to add character to any space.

Like many out there, we are partial to wood fixtures and fittings for interiors. They exude a natural warmth, and are simply beautiful. However, wood is a notoriously high maintenance material, as without the proper care it can deteriorate. Varnishing, polishing and ensuring a dry environment is key to their longevity. So if you choose to opt for timber Venetian blinds instead of timber-look (PVC), they need to be kept alive.

The best way to care for your blinds is to maintain them regularly, whether they are double-roller blinds or any other. We take a closer look at this in this article, along with the best cleaning practices you can adopt. Here are a few important tips to help you with this process.

Avoid Using Harsh Substances

The golden rule for cleaning timber Venetian blinds is to stay away from harsh detergents or chemicals at all costs. This is because chemicals can damage your beautiful wood finish. Some even leave a burn if they are too strong. When using water, ensure you use it sparingly as well. Wring out your washcloth very well. The aim is to not let water absorb into the wood.

If you must use a cleaning solution, then we recommend you do a patch test first. Before using it in full force on the entirety of your blinds, try it out in a corner first. The last thing you want is for the wood to discolour. There are wood-specific solutions that would be the best choice in this instance.

Use a Microfibre Cloth or Dry Duster

Steer clear of any abrasive cleaning cloths and materials such as scourers. You do not want to scrape off the finish of the wood. It is a protective layer, put there to keep the wood safe. Without it, the wood is more vulnerable to damage.

For this reason, we recommend using a microfibre cloth, something similar to what you would use to clean your car. We are not fans of using any liquid-based solutions whatsoever, so if you can avoid this, use a dry duster. It is always better to be safe than sorry!

Use a Vacuum Brush

Not the type of person who wants to fiddle around with various cleaning products? Then turn to your trusty vacuum. This is an especially great way to get into those hard-to-reach nooks and crannies. Venetian blinds in particular can benefit from this. As they are made out of individual slats, dust can accumulate in corners near the strings. Your vacuum’s brush head is excellent for efficiently cleaning these areas.

The Easiest Care Is Regular Care

As someone once said, prevention is better than cure. Make it a habit to wipe them down once or twice a week. Every two weeks or so, you could use the vacuum to give your blinds a deep clean. For stubborn stains, use a dry paper towel to remove any residue first. Never use sharp tools to do this. When doing this, ensure you support the slat by holding it firmly between your thumb and index finger.

These handy tips will help your timber Venetian blinds from losing their lustre. Remember that your blinds should be completely dry when you are done. Do not let any moisture retain on them. Timber Venetian Blinds are an investment you need to be vigilant to take care of.  We are also happy to share maintenance tips with you, if you have any questions.
