Whilst hotel-style bathrooms are a dream for many, unfortunately not many of us have the luxury of a huge bathroom. Whilst we can’t actually make your bathroom bigger (sorry!), there are a number of things you can do to create the optical illusion of more space.

From carefully selected paint colours to space saving design – if you’re interested in making your bathroom feel more spacious, then read on.

  1. Choose the right bathroom paint

A great bathroom starts with a great bathroom paint. One of the oldest tricks in the book is to use lots of white or pale colours. A seamless floor-to-ceiling white paint will blur any lines and make the space appear bigger.

If you want to make a statement, you could even do the opposite and go for a daringly dark colour. Whilst controversial, darker colours used throughout the bathroom can create depth, giving the illusion of a bigger space. Strangely, it works especially well in windowless bathrooms!

  1. Install a corner or floating sink

It might seem a little counter-intuitive but cutting your vanity in half and putting it in a corner can actually offer you more storage space. Corner bathroom vanity units allow for ample storage whilst taking up the least floor space possible. Unlike other bathroom designs, no area is wasted.

However, if a corner sink isn’t practical, why not consider a floating sink? Floating sinks can make your bathroom look bigger. As they have free space beneath them, they give the illusion of flow and space, compared to their freestanding counterparts.

  1. Use well-chosen mirrors

Mirrors are great to make the room appear bigger as they reflect the light. Mirrors reflect both natural and artificial light to make a room appear lighter and brighter, so it’s well worth investing in a well-chosen bathroom mirror.

There are so many to choose from, but the good news is you don’t have to just pick one! Don’t be scared to combine multiple mirrors to create an eclectic yet chic mix to create an airy, spacious wet room.

  1. Add a wall-mounted toilet

Often seen in the trendiest city apartments, wall mounted toilets are a firm favourite with interior designers, and for good reason. Minimalistic and classy by nature, they not only look great but also save loads of space.

They give the illusion of a spotless, minimalistic designer bathroom and they are even easier to clean than a traditional floor-mounted toilet.

The only downside is that they can come with a hefty price tag, but they are worth the investment if you can afford it.

If you’re looking for a way to make your bathroom appear bigger – don’t despair! There are plenty of ways you can create the illusion of space without having to undergo costly building works. By choosing your paint carefully, hanging mirrors and carefully choosing your bathroom furniture, you can trick guests into thinking your bathroom is far bigger than it actually is.
