From the Latin word used for gallery or porch, veranda, we have the term ‘’bay window’’. This space is pressured outward from other walls of the room, which gives the effect of a bay.
There are different types of a bay window, such as semi-circular, square, triangular or polygonal, rectangular and sometimes curved. It all depends on the personal style and preferences. The heights vary too so they can be lower or higher.
From the outside, bay window looks like a separated part of the house that changes the shape of it and is added additionally.
However, from the inside, it looks amazing. It’s an extra place where we can spend some nice time in an interesting and comfortable environment, no matter if it’s in the living room, bedroom or even the kitchen, it will make each room more cozy and good looking!
When the bay windows started to be a standard feature of the Victorian residential architecture, the popularity of this idea grew tremendously!
They were mostly part of the ground floor and more and more people started to create ones for their own houses. One of the beneficial things regarding this improvement is the increased amount of light that it provides.
This is especially important for the dark and deep rooms because, with a bay window, they look even larger and significantly less dark, which gives the room and a house a whole new feeling.
In case you have your own bay window already, you might not understand its importance or all the things you could do with it.
However, if you don’t have one, you are probably thinking of all the things you could do and add within this small and important space.

Some people may think that this feature does not belong in the modern architecture as they seem pretty traditional, it does not have to be like that at all because they can be adapted to any style and bring benefits that every owner will love.
Now, just like everything, these windows have some difficulties such as the proper treatment that may not be easy to find and the change that they cause to the exterior of the house and the fact that the available place indoor can be too small if not created properly.
However, there are way more advantages and reasons why bay windows should be considered:

- The architectural significance of bay window is not something that should be omitted. Apart from the comfort, it adds elegance, history, and style to the room.
- If they are planned very well, bay windows can be versatile. Among the regular uses, you can make your own daybed, bench, storage or even kitchen within this space! It’s all about the creativity and a little bit of effort.
- Making window seats is easier if you have a bay window. Of course, you should add a personal touch and create this space according to your preferences and needs. Choose the colors and materials that you will add and enjoy reading a book or watching a movie by the window!
